Missionaries are the true heroes of today - men, women and children who have surrendered all and determined to fulfill the Great Commission by carrying the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the farthest corners of the globe.

(DISCLAIMER: I am a member of an Independent, Fundamental KJV-preaching, soul-winning Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. However, this blog is my own creation and is not a ministry of Bethany Baptist Church. Missionaries featured in this space may or may not be supported by my church. Inclusion in this list does not imply any affiliation with Bethany Baptist Church, nor does it offer any extra "in" for a missionary to present his work at our church. Inviting a missionary to our church is not my decision, but my Pastor's. I'm sorry to have to include this, but don't want to have any misunderstandings to come out of what is intended to be a blessing.)

Globetrotting toward Siberia!

If you're old like me, then you remember the days of the Soviet Union, and the rumors in the West were that anyone who got on the wrong side of the KGB was immediately shipped off to Siberia with no hope for freedom. To my young mind, Siberia was the picture of hopelessness. I had no clue WHERE Siberia was, nor did I know anything about the region, but that wasn't important to the mental image I created.

This memory came out as a means to cleverly introduce our newest missionary blog and the missionaries who have dedicated themselves to the field of Krasnoyarsk, Siberia. I am pleased to present to you the Sterling family (David and Dee Dee). Their blog, "Serving in Siberia" can be found here: http://sterlingstosiberia.blogspot.com/

So I could be more educated about Siberia, I did some quick reading about Krasnoyarsk - it is a city of nearly a million people with a nearly 400-year history. I shivered when I read that the lowest temperature recorded there was -63 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact, the average air temperature there in January is 3.9 degrees Fahrenheit!!! Brrrr!!

Bro. and Mrs. Sterling have been serving in Krasnoyarsk since 1999. Their blog is a storehouse of information about their work and I encourage you to stop by for a visit. (By the way, check out the slide show - your heart will melt at the pictures of the many people the Sterling's have dealt with over the years.)

Please keep the Sterling family in your prayers as they continue to bring the warmth of Christ's love into a cold land. Don't forget to subscribe to their blog if you want and sign up for email updates. (Also, don't forget to do the same for this blog, too, so you can receive updates as they are published!)

Remember to support the mission program of your local church. If you've never stepped out in faith to give, please do so - you will never regret the difference you can make in the lives of men and women around the world.

In Christ,

Bro. Garry
